The short answer: plan on about four to four and a half hours for 18 holes. But the real answer depends on a few things worth knowing before you book a tee time.
Typical round times
- 18 holes, riding cart: about 3.5–4.5 hours.
- 18 holes, walking: about 4–5 hours.
- 9 holes: about 1.5–2.5 hours — a great option for busy schedules.
What changes the pace
- How busy the course is — weekend mornings are the slowest; weekday afternoons fly by.
- Group size — foursomes take longer than pairs.
- Course difficulty — lost balls and forced carries eat time.
- Your tee time — the earlier you tee off, the fewer groups ahead of you.
Budget the whole trip
Add time for arriving 20–30 minutes early, warming up, and grabbing food after. A weekend 18 with friends is realistically a five-to-six-hour outing door to door. Nine holes after work is the honest answer for tight schedules — and evening twilight rates are usually cheaper too.
Playing faster (without rushing)
Be ready when it is your turn, take one practice swing instead of four, and pick up your ball if a hole goes sideways in a casual round. Fast golf is mostly about being ready, not swinging quickly.
